Sci-Fi Geek

My name is Sherrill Quinn, and I'm a science fiction geek.

There. I said it loud, I said it proud.

I grew up watching Star Trek (the original, although already in syndication--I'm not quite that old), then of course moved on to Voyager, DS9, and even the latest, Enterprise. Star Wars... I'm so there. Han Solo. Grrroowwf. The Twilight Zone. The Sci Fi Channel is running Seaquest episodes all week, and I've been caught back up in that. After watching the first season episodes, I remember why I liked the show so much when it was originally on. After watching a few of the second season episodes, I figured out why the show was cancelled. It just went too far out there. Even though I like fantasy, it just didn't work with this show.

Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis are two of my all-time favorites. I've become hooked on the new Battlestar Galactica. And I liked Farscape and Firefly, too.

Then there's the sci-fi/horror shows: Kolchak: The Night Stalker (the original with Darren McGavin. I didn't much care for the remake that was on this season); Buffy and Angel; Dark Shadows (I remember as a kid watching this -- I'm amazed that my mom let me. It was pretty scary for a kid. Plus the remake with Ben Cross. Yum.)

What about you? Any lurking sci-fi geekiness inside you?

P.S. My pal Sloane Taylor received a contract yesterday from Triskelion Publishing for her story Teddi Turns On. Woo-hoo, Sloane!!

Thanks for the support, Sherrill. You're a good person.

Never was interested in sci-fi. In fact, I never cared for paranormal or shapeshifters until I started reading you and Jenna. You two authors have hooked me.

On christmas Day Dad & I watched How William Shatner Changed the World on Discovery Channel and it was all how Star Trek has affected the world of science and medicine. It was very interesting. And Shatner, well, he was hilarious.

I'm not big on sci-fi but I do want to see that Serenity movie. Maybe it has to do with all the hot guys in it. Either way...

Going back to bed.

Yes, I'm a science fiction geek as well. I started reading science fiction when I was 14 (didn't know about romance then) and that was at a time when it was hard science fiction.

I still read science fiction/fantasy. I enjoy shows like Stargate, Star Trek (both old and new), Battlestar Galactica (Old and new) Oh, Ben Cross in the Dark Shadows remake (be still my heart) I too have been watching the SeaQuest DSV on SciFi channel this week.

I love vampires, werewolves and shapeshifters, just about anything paranormal.

Sloane, congrats again on the sale!

William Shatner's laughing all the way to the bank. I remember when I was watching the show, my dad would make snide little comments like, "there's old dummy." (Obviously wasn't impressed with Shatner's acting, er, abilities.) Regardless, Shatner seems to have a very dry, self-deprecating humor that is very funny. (The Priceline commercials with him and Leonard Nimoy are some of my favorites.)

Jenna, the Serenity movie was excellent. I didn't watch Firefly until the Sci Fi Channel showed it in reruns, and I got hooked. It says a lot for Joss Whedon that he managed to get a movie deal off a cancelled TV show. Maybe the movie will help bring the show back. Who knows?

Hey, Nancy, speaking of Seaquest--I'd forgotten that Michael Ironside was in the later episodes. Talk about a guy who always plays alpha types. Grrrrr.

Oh god. I love Michael Ironside. I remember watching him on V the Series. The show scared the poop out me what with bird eating aliens but I loved Ironside in that.

That voice.

That scar.

Dear God.

Oooh, yeah. I'd forgotten about V. Was glued to the TV while that was on. It wasn't the same once Ironside's character was gone. Just didn't do the same thing for me.

It's the voice, and that grin that can look so deadly.

My DH is the Trekkie, er, I mean Trekker in this family. He loves watching any episode, any time. He can deliver Shatner's lines verbatim in most of them. lol I, too, enjoy the Shatner/Nimoy commercials, and I appreciate Shatner's ability to look back and laugh about his "delivery" as well. Ever see Galaxy Quest (comedy) with Tim Allen? That one's a hoot. I did enjoy a few of the X-File episodes; DH hardly ever missed one of those, either. And let's not even talk about the Lord of the Rings series... Son can do an incredible Gollum... ~Su

Oooh. I just found out that Michael Ironside will be in an episode of Stargate SG-1 this season. Of course, it's the second to last episode, so it won't air until probably late March sometime. And it sounds like he plays a bad guy.

But when he's bad, he's so goooood. :)

Well, I have to admit that in the original series of Star Trek, my favorite moments were the ones either between Spock and McCoy, or the ones where McCoy was reminding people he was a doctor. "Dammit, Jim. I'm a doctor, not a bricklayer" from the episode with the big rock creature slug thing. "I'm a doctor, not an elevator" from the episode with the pregnant lady.

In the Star Trek movie, First Contact (with the Next Generation characters), they revived that when the holographic doctor was brought up during the Borg invasion of the ship. Doctor Crusher told him to stall, and his response was something like "I'm a doctor, not a doorstop." I laughed like a loon.

And on one Stargate SG-1 episode (season 5 or 6) one of the secondary characters makes a comment "We might as well be wearing red shirts", i.e., from the original series, if you were wearing a red shirt and you weren't a main character, and went down to a planet, you weren't coming back alive. :)

I'm a Trekker, too.

Oh, Michael Ironside. Yes, he's great. V was a good series and he was great in it. He was also very good in Top Gun with Tom Cruise. He was also on another tv series but the name escapes me right now.

I forgot to mention earlier that I love some of the old sci-fi movies, The Day the Earth Stood Still, War of the Worlds, old Vincent Price movies.
